Born in Essex, Matthew Elderton-Lewis (b. 2001) is a contemporary classical composer whose infectiously passionate personality and musical talent is continuing to emerge onto both concert and multimedia stages. With his style being described as idiosyncratic and memorably melodic, Matthew started to gaining recognition for his work after being awarded the ‘MMus Prize for Outstanding Achievement’ for his postgraduate degree.
As a concert composer, he has been selected for Britten Sinfonia’s Opus 1, shortlisted for PoppyHarp Composer Project, commissioned by Carla Rees for PLAY! Festival 2023 and Belle Quartet for their upcoming EP, and been composer-in-residence for Royal Holloway Picture Gallery. Matthew has received a number of performances and workshops opportunities from the likes of Phacelia Ensemble, Riot Ensemble, Chroma Ensemble, Royal Holloway Chapel Choir, Ligeti Quartet, LCM Camerata, Catrin Finch and Bethan Conway.
As well as being a conductor, Matthew has also enjoyed a busy work schedule working on several adverts, scoring competitions, trailers and short films. Most recently he has completed contributing music to Paul G Raymond’s award winning short, The Suicide (2025).
